Quotes

I am a great fan of quotes to help you to think differently. Below are my favourite selection. Where possible I have attributed them to the originator and how I use them.

"Until a value is demonstrated by behaviour it remains an aspiration": I use this to drive home the understanding that creating a values driven organisation is about behaviour day in & day out and not plaques on the wall or entries in company handbooks

"Whether you believe you can or you can't - either way you are right": I use this in conjunction with "Winner & Loser Tapes" (see section on Attitude) to help people realise the power of the mind.

"Feedback is the breakfast of champions" (Ken Blanchard): A good concept to make feedback a positive activity and a useful link to sport"

"Don't look up for leadership - look around for it" (Jim Kouzes): In these days of reduced hierarchy & increased technology the traditiona lline manger need not be the only source of leadership.

"Adversity introuduces ourselves to oureselves" (Jim Kouzes): The second quote by Jim Kouzes and self explanatory. Similar to the principle of - anyone can steer a ship in calm waters.

"Communication is an unnnatural act" (Allan Leighton): I use this to explain why communication is not easy and must be managed and worked in a systematic way

"They say time changes things but you actually have to change them yourself" (Andy Warhol): This is a particularly pertinent quote for work / life balance

"Everyone has 168 hours in the week - fact. The variable is how you use them": This is my favourite time management quote

"Planned spontaneous recognition"  (SID Video): A great quote from the SID Video which reminds me of the importance of planning recognition but making it seem spomtaneous

"Money spent does not equal value received" (SID Video): A reminder that great recognition is not about spending lots of money
